MOTS

Book Your MOT Test

MOT (Ministry of Transport) tests are mandatory annual inspections of vehicles that are required in the UK for most cars over three years old.

The purpose of the test is to ensure that vehicles on the road are safe and meet minimum environmental standards.

The test includes checks on various aspects of the vehicle, such as the brakes, tires, lights, and emissions.

If a vehicle passes the test, a certificate will be issued, and the vehicle is considered roadworthy for another year.

If a vehicle fails the test, it will need to be repaired and retested before it can be driven on the road again.

It’s important to note that failure to have an MOT test can result in fines, and driving a vehicle without a valid MOT certificate can invalidate insurance.

MOT Classes Explained

What Type Of MOT Do I Need?

In the United Kingdom, there are several classes of MOT test that are applicable to different types of vehicles. These classes include:

Class 1: Motorcycles with an engine size up to 200cc

Class 2: Motorcycles with an engine size over 200cc

Class 3: 3-wheeled vehicles (excluding motorcycles)

Class 4: Cars (up to 8 passenger seats), motor caravans, dual-purpose vehicles, and private hire and public service vehicles

Class 5: Private buses (more than 8 passenger seats)

Class 7: Goods vehicles (over 3,000 kg up to 3,500 kg design gross weight)

Each class has its own set of requirements for passing the MOT test, and the type of vehicle being tested will determine which class it falls under.

At KwickFix Motors we can accommodate Class 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7 MOTs.

Do Electric Cars Need An MOT?

EVs, and hybrids too, need an MOT test every year once the vehicle is 3 years old or more, just like petrol and diesel engine cars. The MOT test for electric vehicles differs slightly due to the different components that are present, but there is no MOT exemption for electric vehicles. Hybrid and electric vehicle MOT testing is available at KwikFix MOT test centres. Use the .gov MOT checker to find out when your Electric vehicle service is due and also use our reminder service.
